Mammoth Model

I created this model using Maya and Mudbox. (click on the pic to enlarge)

I started out in Maya and created a basic mammoth shape, taking inspiration from random mammoth sketches on the internet and from a little elephant toy I found at home. Here are some pics form the early Maya stages of the mammoth:

After adding the ears, toes and some details, I created a nice UV layout and prepared it to be exported in Mudbox. In Mudbox I tweaked the shape a bit, added the textures and the fine details. After adding the fine detail on a highly subdivided poly model, I extracted a normal map and AO map and applied them to the low-medium poly model (around 10 000 tris).

I exported the low poly model back into Maya and applied all the maps to it. Then, after making some final tweaks to the mesh and to the materials, I rendered the model using Mental Ray.
